That’s right, our design team is packing up and heading south to explore and research new products for the coming year.

There’s a lot to see and a lot of ground to cover, so we’ve opted to fly out on Sunday afternoon to ensure we hit the ground running coming Monday morning. It’s going to be an exciting and crazy busy week!

The Vegas market debuts the “latest industry trends all within one impressive, state-of-the-art event, and offers products across all categories, including furniture, accessories, gift, lighting, home textile, rugs, floor coverings and more”.

The Las Vegas Market promises productive and efficient use of your time. With 1,500 exhibitors spanning three buildings and four Market Destinations, buyers, designers and industry professionals can spend their days at Market, with evenings free for fun in the exciting city of Las Vegas (lasvegasmarket.com).

Make sure to check our facebook page and blog next week for updates during the event!

We’re staying at Planet Hollywood, only a hop – skip – and jump away from the event facilities.

Here are a few manufacturers we’ve lined up to visit – and this is only the beginning!

Revealing Your Homes Hidden Treasures…

When your home needs a little sprucing, sometimes its all about ‘workin’ with what ya got’! If its redecorating a room or remodeling an entire house, GHID loves including original, personal elements into a space. Check out a few great examples…

Sometimes all a lamp needs is a new shade. Keep in mind the right scale of shade to the size of the base. The most all round pleasing shape to any space is the drum shade.

Found objects, i.e. items from traveling, family heirlooms, or just a successful trip to a thrift store, these objects make great accessories for shelves that are needing to be filled or mantelpieces.

Get an item reupholstered! One of our clients had two chairs that have been in her family and if possible wanted to keep in her space’s new design. With some new fabric and finish choices we were able to very easily incorporate them back into her space.

Finishing Touches: Adding Greenery to Your Home

January 18th, 2012 § by Alison Van Delden § 0 comments § permalink

Not your grandmother’s silk flowers anymore, faux plants provide endless options for adding a little nature to complete any space in your home. Along with their inherent beauty, these additions are far easier to care for than live plants. No more worrying about how much to water or coming home from vacation to a shriveled up plant, just care-free beauty!

  • Need to fill a corner? Larger trees or shrubs can easily do the trick. GHID loves adding in greenery in hard to fill spaces. Some of our favorite include: Fiddle Leaf Trees, Sansevieria, and Agave trees.

  • Succulents are a great way to bring bits of green into your home. Not your typical faux plant, succulents are some of the easiest plants to disguise as fake. Lovin’ our new terrarium office additions…

  • Keep the blooms alive. Who doesn’t love a flower that doesn’t fade, it can be an entire blooming plant or just a stem.

  • Last but not least, topiary trees are a great addition to an entryway or kitchen. Whether it be a lemon tree or ivy, topiaries add a nice sense of formality to your greenery.

2011 Design Trend: Ombre…

January 17th, 2012 § by Nicole Copko § 1 comment § permalink

via FabSugar

There are a few design trends that I’ve come to favor over the past few years – ombre being one of them.

From the French term for “shaded,” ombre is a color effect where the color gradually changes from light to dark over a particular product or object.

From the runways to home decor (and even onto hair) ombre has made quite an impact on the design industry over the past year, making its way onto items such as shower curtains, glamorous evening gowns and home accessories. These slight color changes are sophisticated and elegant, two design terms we at GHID highly favor.

Take a look at 2011′s favored design trend – ombre!

The Art of the Gallery Wall

January 11th, 2012 § by Alison Van Delden § 0 comments § permalink

If you’re an avid art collector or just need to fill an empty wall, gallery walls take on many shapes and forms that can satisfy any home’s décor. GHID loves the chance to incorporate a gallery wall into a space. We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work with some fine pieces of art through various clients and its definitely rewarding to see each gallery take on a life of its own.

If you are hesitant about making a bunch of holes in the wall, do not fret there is hope! A great way to start piecing your gallery together is to create templates for your pieces with newspaper or just arrange the pieces on the floor. Either route you go, you’ll be able to map out your plan on the wall before diving in with the hammer and nail.

Here are a few shots of past projects and also some future inspiration to jump start your gallery wall.

  • Symmetry is a great way to get started if you have a collection of coordinating pieces. This can be taken in many different directions, from creating a perfectly symmetrical palette with clean lines throughout to making a geometric outside boundary for the art to follow.

  • Mixing medias is a great way to mix up your gallery wall. I absolutely love this approach. For example, mixing sculptural unframed art with pieces that are varying sized frames, etc. Below is a client with a lifetime of art collecting to show, you can see that the options are endless when creating a mix of medias.

  • Working from the inside -> out is a great rule of thumb. If you have a piece that is larger than the rest, start with that piece first and work your way around and out.

  • A technique that makes a statement is the use of a single horizon line. I’ve been anxious to try this out, simple yet could give a very luxe feel to a hall or stairwell.
